Celebrating Ohio Book Awards & Authors Grant
COVID-19 may change the library´s normal routine, but some things are still the same. Our kids are eager to read, and thanks to a grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), awarded by the State Library of Ohio new award-winning books have arrived in the Green Elementary School Library. The library received the $1,500 Celebrating Ohio Book Awards & Authors (COBAA) grant to purchase new books on February 25, 2020, but due to school closures for quarantine had to wait until the start of the new school year to begin safely circulating the new books. Some titles never made it to the bookshelf because students are using the new Holds feature of the online catalog, thanks to INFOhio / Library Services, to request titles.
The Celebrating Ohio Book Awards & Authors grant is awarded by the State Library of Ohio to support collection development and is funded through a federal Institute of Museum and Library Services LSSTA grant. Titles purchased using the COBAA grant come from a list of over 1,800 eligible titles from the various book awards. These awards are: The Anisfield-Wolf Award, Buckeye Children’s and Teen Book Awards, Choose to Read Ohio Booklists (CTRO), Dayton Literary Peace Prize, Floyd’s Pick Book Award, James Cook Book Award, Norman A. Sugarman Children’s Biography Award, Ohioana Book Awards, and the Thurber Prize for American Humor. One hundred award-winning books, selected from these award lists are now part of the Green’s library collection.
The Institute of Museum and Library Services is the primary source of federal support for the nation’s libraries and museums. They advance, support, and empower America’s museums, libraries, and related organizations through grant making, research, and policy development.Their vision is a nation where museums and libraries work together to transform the lives of individuals and communities. To learn more, visit www.imls.gov and follow us on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/USIMLS) and Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/us_imls).Follow the State Library of Ohio on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/StateLibraryOhio .
